Together with Robin Boyd’s architecture, Grant Featherston’s furniture and Clement Meadmore’s lighting designs, Frances Burke’s (1904–1994) lino-block and screen-printed linens and cottons, known for their graceful linework and distinctive shades of teal, taupe and coral, defined the fresh look of the Australian modernist interior.

Burke’s abstract and floral designs, with motifs of Australian natives and tropical plants, became synonymous with progressive mid-20th century Australian life. …
