'Le Noyau de la Force' vase by Axel Salto

Made 1956
A large and heavy stoneware sculpture hand-built in the form of three elongated conical vases emerging from a convex top of a massive cylindrical base. The base is decorated in high relief with a continuing pattern of nine rows of semi-globular knobs, each slightly irregular. The whole is finished with a thick oxblood crystalline glaze poured over a turquoise glaze which is exposed in places (mostly on knobs). The underneath of the base, covered with clear glaze, bears factory and makers marks.
