The Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences acknowledges Australia’s First Nations Peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land and gives respect to the Elders – past and present – and through them to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Berlei Ltd was a highly successful Australian international company that manufactured bras, corsets, underwear, medical support garments, girdles and suspender belts. The company played a major role in producing women’s underwear that fitted the shape of the female body (and undertook the first anthropometric study of 6,000 Australian women in the 1926 National Census of Women’s Measurements). The Berlei company is also significant for its progressive approach to business and marketing.
