Annette Kellerman, born in Sydney in 1886, was an endurance swimmer who created the women’s one piece swimsuit. She went on to become a famous entertainer of the vaudeville stage. She developed a spectacular form of entertainment that combined diving into a glass tank, swimming and graceful underwater ballet, playing in theatres across Europe, the United States and Australia.
