Goggomobil 'Dart' car

The Goggomobil is considered to be the most representative "minicar" on sale in Australia in the second half of the 1950s. Minicars of the period were characterised by small physical size coupled with interior spaciousness, small engine with high power output, low fuel consumption and simplicity. The Goggomobil was possibly the most successful and profitable attempt to design, manufacture and market a minicar in Australia.

Goggomobil 'Dart' car, full size, body No. 712, fibreglass / rubber / metal, body designed and made by Bill Buckle, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, 1959, chassis and mechanics made by Goggomobil, Germany

Open two seat, full size mini car with red painted fibreglass boy on a German built body and mechanics. Powered by a twin cylinder air cooled two stroke engine of 300cc. The weight of the car is 350kg. Specifications include:
Engine: two cylinders, two stroke, air cooled, rear mounted, 293cc capacity developing 13kW at 5000 rpm.
Maximum Speed: 105km/h
Gearbox: four speed, all synchromesh
Unlanden Weight: 304kg
Fuel Consumption: 5 litres / 100km
Suspension: coil springs, independent on all wheels
Brakes: four wheel, hydraulic
Body: fibreglass, two piece, two seater, no doors, front luggage boot.

Marks

On the front of the car is 'DART' and the Goggomobil 'G' logo with a registration sticker on the bottom left hand side of the window 'New South Wales 1990 / 6 / 293486'. On the left hand side of the car is 'Goggomobil' and 'G' on the hubcaps. The same appears on the right hand side. On the back of the car is 'G' and 'BUCKLE'. Inside the car underneath the lid which protects the engine is 'IMPORTANT / MIX 1 PINT OIL / TO 2 1/2 GALS FUEL'. The latter is spray painted in black ink. Also inside the car underneath the handbrake is the VIN number. The mileage on the speedometer reads '34595'.
