Playful, colourful, childlike and a bit uncomfortable, the ‘Lido’ lounge was designed by Michele de Lucchi for Memphis in 1982. An Italian design collaborative founded by Ettore Sottsass, Memphis was known for their overt anti-modernist designs, which employed unconventional shapes, materials, colours and patterns. Physical Description

Couch, 'Lido', wood / fabric / plastic / metal, designed by Michele de Lucchi, made by Memphis, Italy, 1982.

'Lido' couch with a wooden, plastic and metal frame, padded and upholstered in multi-coloured fabric. The black wooden back rests between the black and white patterned rear legs. Yellow plastic quadrants attached to the rear legs support the padded and upholstered armrests. The front legs are made of black tubular steel with grey metal feet. The cushioned backrest, seat and armrests are upholstered in dark green, purple, blue and light green wool mix fabric, the backrest in two sections.
