This image from a photograph in an album produced between 1880 and 1890 shows the already well established Sydney suburb of Double Bay. On the waterfront at Darling Point (far left), the house 'Carthona' can be seen. Built in 1841 the house still stands today (2016).

Several cutters are at anchor in the bay and other yachts are propped up on the beach. To the right is Seven Shillings Bay with Blackburn Cove, leading to Point Piper. Off Point Piper can be seen a coaster, probably a collier, …
