Sidney Warden was the most prolific of the several architects who designed hotels for Tooth & Co. Some of the architects who worked for Tooth & Co - Sidney Ancher, Sam Lipson, Rudder & Grout - were better known, but none designed so many hotels or so many well-known hotels.

The Marrickville Hotel is featured in a 1939 edition of the journal 'Decoration and Glass' (Oct 1939 - see 2007/61/1-4/19).

History

Notes

This bar is typical of the period and was designed to accommodate as many stand-up drinkers as possible. From 1916 to 1955 hotels had to close at six o'clock leading to binge drinking usually called the six o'clock swill.
