Sidney Warden was the most prolific of the several architects who designed hotels for Tooth & Co. Some of the architects who worked for Tooth & Co - Sidney Ancher, Sam Lipson, Rudder & Grout - were better known, but none designed so many hotels or so many well-known hotels.

A temporary bar is situated next to the construction site of the Criterion Hotel. A sign at the front of the construction site reads: 'A MODERN HOTEL / IS BEING ERECTED ON THIS SITE FOR / MESSRS TOOTH & CO LTD / ARCHITECT BUILDER / SIDNEY WARDEN A.D. DENGATE / 9 MARTIN PLACE 451 ALFRED ST / SYDNEY NORTH SYDNEY'.
