Israeli Olympic team cap for Sydney Olympics

Made in China, Asia, 2000.

This cap has significance as an example of items brought to Australia by foreign teams competing at the Sydney Olympic Games, which were held from 15 September to 1 October 2000. It comes from a small group of objects presented to the Powerhouse Museum by the Israeli team at the Sydney Olympic Games. Each incorporates graphic elements of the Sydney 2000 Games logo or other symbols of Australia. White baseball-style cap with dark blue peak, blue button on top of crown. Six small metal rings for ventilation holes. Illustrations at front of Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House (in gold) and a red heart, the Israeli flag in blue and the words 'From Israel ... 2000' in blue and 'To Sydney' in green. Metal buckle at back for adjustable Velcro strap.

This cap was part of a small group of souvenirs left as a gift to the Powerhouse Museum by visiting members of the Israeli team at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Dr Kevin Fewster, then Director of the Museum, passed these objects to the curator for acquisition.
