Advertising poster for Qantas

The production and use of posters to promote airlines and their operations has remained an integral part of various airlines’ advertising campaigns despite inroads made recently by the electronic media.

Portrait-format advertising poster designed by Harry Rogers for Qantas to promote Australia as a destination and Qantas as a premier international airline. The poster features a colour lithograph from an artwork based on the Sydney Opera House, depicting three sails of the building's roof in orange and bronze tones. The words 'Australia' and 'Qantas' are printed in blue and red across the top of the poster, separated by the Qantas logo.

The poster was designed by Harry Rogers (1929-2012) for Qantas, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, 1960-1970.

This is one of a number of successful advertising campaigns which Rogers designed to promote Qantas as Australia's premier international carrier. The success of his designs ensured a long association between Qantas and Rogers. Rogers' work with Qantas arose through his association with renowned graphic artist, Gert Sellheim, who had designed Qantas' winged kangaroo symbol which first appeared in 1947. Roger's actually succeeded Sellheim as Qantas' preferred freelance graphic designer.
