This poster was created by Indigenous artist Brenda Palma (nee Saunders) who was involved in the campaign by the National Aboriginal History and Heritage Council to save the Australian Hall Building, which is the site of the first national conference of the Aborigines progressive Association called the 'Day of Mourning', held on the 26th January 1938.
Members from many Aboriginal nations gathered for this conference to demand basic civil and citizenship rights. The poster celebrates the 60th anniversary of the 'Day of Mourning'. The main photograph featured in the poster includes the Koori people who were instrumental in organising the 'Day of Mourning'. From left to right they are: William Ferguson, Jack Kinchella, Helen Grosvenor, Selina Patten and Jack Patten.
