This silk satin ankle boot comes from an important collection of footwear and shoemaking objects thought to have been initiated by the London shoemaker, Robert Dixon Box, and consolidated by his son, Joseph Box and the Box Kingham family during the second half of the 1800s. Ankle boot, side lace, girls, silk satin / leather / linen, made by Gundry & Sons / [made for Miss J Lovell], London, England, 1830-1845

Girls single left straight side lace ankle boot of turnshoe construction with square rounded toe and no heel. Boot consists of a pale blue silk satin upper featuring seamed front and back, side lacing with eight pairs of worked holes, (laces missing) and square cut tongue. Upper lined in natural linen, the sock in white linen and the sole is leather.
