This Oxford shoe comes from an important collection of footwear and shoemaking objects thought to have been initiated by the London shoemaker, Robert Dixon Box, and consolidated by his son, Joseph Box and the Box Kingham family during the second half of the 1800s. Oxford shoe, womens, silk satin / leather, made by [Pattison], London, England, 1855-1865

Single left womens closed tab shoe, Oxford, turnshoe construction with finger tip toe and covered thin Louis heel. Shoe consists of fawn silk satin upper in one piece with back seam only and bound edges. Front cut with six pairs of worked holes with original lace in inverted V pattern over a square cut tongue. Upper decorated with mock peaked cap and vamp seam both embroidered in chain stitch. Upper lined in linen and kid leather with stiffener between the lining and upper. Heel covered in blue kid leather and leather sole features sueded forepart, polished waist and black edged breast decorated with [pokerwork] scrolls.
