This pair of slip on shoes made by Pattison, who was noted for his high heels, is renowned for reviving the fashion for heels in London. The shoes come from an important collection of footwear and shoemaking objects thought to have been initiated by the London shoemaker, Robert Dixon Box, and consolidated by his son, Joseph Box and the Box Kingham family during the second half of the 1800s. Slip on shoes, pair, womens, leather, made by Pattison, London, England, c. 1850

Womens pair of straight slip on shoes of [turnshoe] construction with square toe and covered Louis heel. Shoes consist of pale blue kid leather uppers with square throat, side and back seams and top edge bound (mostly missing). Uppers fully lined with blue silk satin and sock is blue silk, padded and quilted. Heel covered in blue kid with brown heel breast and leather sole is finished in white at the forepart with brown polished breast.
