This pair of slip on shoes comes from an important collection of footwear and shoemaking objects thought to have been initiated by the London shoemaker, Robert Dixon Box, and consolidated by his son, Joseph Box and the Box Kingham family during the second half of the 1800s. Slip on shoes, pair, womens, tabbed, silk satin / linen / leather, made by Gundry & Sons, London, England, c1840-1849

Pair of unworn womens tabbed slip on shoes of turnshoe construction with oval toe and covered wedge heel. Shoes consist of ivory silk satin uppers with tab front, oblique side seam and back seam all bound in gold and decorated with a gold rose and silver floral button at the centre stitched onto the tab front, Lined with linen and kid with the sock in white kid. Heels are covered in the same fabric as the uppers and the sole is leather.
