Notes

The German Maxim machine gun is a recoil operated, water cooled, full automatic, belt fed weapon based on American Hiram Maxim's machine gun design. The cocking handle is located on the rear of the toggle lock and serves as both an unlocking member and a breech block accelerator. The feed system use non disintegrating belts made from cloth or tarpaulin with metallic alignment struts. Ammunition feed is from the right side. The gun is usually attached to a bipod. This example was manufactured by J. P Sauer and Sons in 1918.

J. P. Sauer und Sohn (Sauer & Sohn) is a German manufacturer of firearms. Founded in 1751 in Suhl, Thuringia, Sauer & Sohn is the oldest firearms manufacturer still active in Germany.
