Coat, part of women's ensemble, knitted cotton, featuring the Sydney Harbour Bridge, designed by Jenny Kee, made by Jan Ayres for Flamingo Park, Sydney, Australia, 1980
The knitted coat is part of a women's ensemble designed by Jenny Kee and made by Jan Ayres for Flamingo Park. The cardigan-style coat has short sleeves, a round neck, a front buttoning closure and a ribbed band at the bottom. The Sydney Harbour Bridge is depicted in black across the centre front. A stylised white Australia shape, crossed by a black diagonal line, lies on the right breast. Two parallel, diagonal lines, one black, one white, lie on the left breast. A band of blue runs beneath the Bridge representing the sea. The Harbour Bridge design extends around under the arm to the back of the dress. A design of the Sydney Opera House runs across the centre back in white, with the band of blue sea continuing below. A stylised black outline of Australia is on the left shoulder blade, crossed by a diagonal black line. Two parallel white lines slant across the left shoulder blade. The dress has a border of white rectangular shapes against a black ground on the neck and arms. The ribbed band at the bottom carrys a similar black and white border. This design is repeated down each side of the centre front opening with blue plastic buttons running down one side of the border. A pocket has been inset into both side seams.
