Otto Lucas b.Germany 1903 d Belgium 1971. After a period spent in Paris and Berlin to learn the milliners trade, Lucas moved to London where he opened his Mayfair salon in 1932. From that time until his death in an aeroplane crash his business was a great success and his hats bought by major shops all over the world. Private customers included the Duchess of Windsor and he also designed for films in the 1940s and 1950s.

The Jacovides Collection was assembled by Chris Jacovides, a Sydney couturier and costume collector. The collection comprising 135 items of women'sclothinga nd accessories from the period 1910 until the 1960s, represents the
ork ofin fluential overseas and Australian designers. The National Trust of
Astralia(NSW) purchased the collection from Chris Jacovides in 1976 with the
pln ofesta blishing a museum of costume in Sydney. This did not eventuate andwith permission from the museum the National Trust was able to store thecollection with the Powerhouse Museum from 1980 until purchased by the Museum in 1996.Previously catalogued in the Jacovides collection as No.125.
