From the beginning Speedo engaged record-winning swimmers to promote its competitive swimwear. Initially it used an international swim star over local Olympic champion Andrew 'Boy' Charlton. The endorsement of popular Swedish champion Arne Borg, who had set thirty-two world records during the 1920s, was seen as a valuable asset in promoting the superiority of its Speedo brand of swimwear.

Black and white photograph of Arne Borg, used to promote Speedo swimwear, rectangular, portrait format, mounted on cardboard, varnished wooden frame with glass front, depicts swimmer Arne Borg wearing a Speedo one-piece tank style swimsuit, two cameo photographs show the back view, focussing on the 'racer back' design of the swimsuit. Autographed by Borg, and labelled with the printed caption: " 'Speedo' Racer Back Costume for All swimmers. Arne Borg, holder of all World's swimming records from 300 yards to 1 mile, who has worn a 'Speedo' costume in all his record breaking swims in Australia". The photographer's details are printed beneath the photograph.

Sidney Riley Studios operated concurrently at several Sydney locations (Balmain, Rozelle, Pitt St., Sydney, Marrickville & Chatswood), and in Brisbane, between 1911 and 1946. 'A Sidney Riley Portrait of your Bridal Group will be a pleasing and artistic photograph that you would delight in giving your friends', ran one of their advertisements in 1930.
