Andrews' first real opportunity to demonstrate his versatility as a designer came when he was employed as a consultant to David Jones department store in Sydney for whom he designed a set of three saucepans produced by Rex Aluminium Co Pty Ltd.

The main feature was the handle grip, which "required only a simple twist of the wrist for easy pouring. Another useful feature was the high lid which gave the saucepan added volume". Gordon Andrews 1989
