This is one of 23 architectural models representing King Street, Sydney, in the 1880s. This streetscape reveals a lost city of trades, shops and entertainment, in buildings of a human scale. King Street was a magnet at night and by day a retail mecca.

Architectural model, 'International Hotel', part of King Street Sydney streetscape, 1870-1890, plywood / cardboard / plastic / wire / fabric, Australian Broadcasting Commission, Sydney, Australia, 1970-1975

Architectural model, 'International Hotel', part of King Street Sydney streetscape, representing 98 King Street situated on the corner Pitt Street, Sydney, predominantly made of plywood and parapet, featuring a low hipped roof, painted grey on a grey base .

The hotel model has four stories, with a corner tower featuring a faceted dome topped with iron cresting. The model has a number of Victorian Gothic features including pointed ach detailing and embellishments and double hung windows with curved sandstone dressings, flanked by Doric columns on each level.The windows have interior dressings of cotton and tule to represent curtains and miniature wooden blinds, which can be seen from the exterior of the model. A potted plant is paced in the corner window of the second storey, a bar structure on the lower level and various electrical fittings with light globes (used to light the interior of the model) can be seen from the open back section of the model.

The awning above the street level of the model follows the curve of the corner, painted brown, supported by ten wooden posts (four missing).The edge of the awning is marked on both street frontages "INTERNATIONAL HOTEL" and " JAS. HUNT PROPRIETOR" on the corner.

The street level of the model has swing door entrance situated on the corner and the walls and windows on both sides are marked with painted signs: On the Kings street side of the model; "KENT ALE / BAR" , "BRIAN BORU WHISKY / BAR" , " TRUMAN'S / BURTON ALE / BAR", a wooden double entry door in the centre of the King Street side features the street number 98. A 'Private entrance' is located at the rear of the model on the Pitt Street side and painted signage; "NEW YORK / ALE & / PORTER", "WE SELL / J. TOOHEYS'S / STANDARD ALE"
